A minivan was destroyed by fire Tuesday afternoon at Seckman and the West Outer roads in Imperial, says Ron Harder, public information officer for the Rock Community Fire Protection District.

Harder said he didn’t know who was driving the minivan or how many people were inside when it caught fire, but no one was hurt.

At 4:21, Rock Fire got a call about the blaze, which had started underneath the van, Harder said.

“It (the van) was well involved (in flames) when firefighters arrived,” he said. “But, the

guys got on the scene and put out the fire. The dangerous situation with those kinds of car fires is you have to watch for fuel leaks or any kind of flash fire, so a second pumper was called in as a precaution, but they were able to contain it (the fire) with just one.”

Harder said no firefighters were hurt either.

The “entire passenger compartment (or inside of the van) was destroyed,” he said.
