The Festus Fire Department responded to an alarm Saturday afternoon (Jan. 27) at the Festus Police Station, only to learn that smoke in the building was caused by a problem with the heating system.
Chuck Boyer, the department’s public information officer, said the department responded to an alarm about 1:25 p.m. at the Festus Police Station, which shares a building with Festus City Hall. The address for the Police Station is 100 Park Ave. and the address for City Hall is 711 W. Main St.
“When we got there, there was a little smoke in one of the halls,” Boyer said. “We were there about 45 minutes.”
Police Chief Tim Lewis said a broken belt on the building’s HVAC system caused the smoke. The problem was handled with a minor repair.
Boyer said Festus received assistance from the Crystal City and Herculaneum fire departments and the Hematite, Jefferson R-7 and Dunklin fire districts.
