Car bursts into flames on Frisco Hill Road in Imperial

The Antonia Fire Protection District shut down a portion of Frisco Hill Road in Imperial on Aug. 14 as firefighters extinguished a fire that destroyed a Lincoln sedan.

A Lincoln sedan was destroyed by fire when a blaze engulfed the car after the man driving it pulled over in the 2700 block of Frisco Hill Road in Imperial. The road was closed for about an hour on Wednesday, Aug. 14, as firefighters extinguished the fire, the Antonia Fire Protection District reported.

Antonia Fire was called about the car fire at about 8 p.m., and the first firetruck arrived at 8:12 p.m. The man, who was driving the car, was out of the Lincoln and attempting to divert traffic when firefighters arrived, Deputy Chief Bobby Chrisco said.

Firefighters shut down a portion of Frisco Hill Road near Valley Oaks Drive while putting out the fire. The road reopened at 9:19 p.m., Chrisco said.

The man told firefighters he had not been having trouble with the car, but he saw smoke billowing from the Lincoln. He said he pulled over and opened the hood and saw flames in the engine compartment, the report said.

Chrisco said it is not known how the fire started in the car or where it started.

“Vehicle fires, even though we investigate everything, are hard to determine (how they started),” he said. “We usually have a good idea if the engine compartment is involved, but when a car is fully involved when we arrive it is hard to tell where the first ignition took place.”

No injuries were reported.
