A fire caused significant damage to a home in the 100 block of Winter Park Court in unincorporated Fenton. A man, woman and pet who were inside the home when the fire started got out safely, Saline Valley Assistant Fire Chief Chris Harris reported.
The Saline Valley Fire Protection District received a call at 12:13 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, about the fire, which started in the garage and spread to the house, Harris said.
“There was heavy fire in the garage when crews arrived, with the fire extending to the second floor,” he said. “It took about an hour to get it under control.”
Harris said the occupants will need to find other housing, at least until repairs are made to the house.
“There was significant damage to the garage and to the house overall,” he said. “It must be repaired before they can return. The Red Cross was called in to assist the family in finding a place to stay and with other needs.”
Harris said the cause of the fire had not been determined but is not considered suspicious.
Firefighters remained on the scene for approximately three hours, he said.
The Rock Community, High Ridge, Antonia, Fenton and Mehlville fire protection districts helped with the call, and the Rock Township Ambulance District responded to the scene.
