A detached barn at 9003 Dittmer Catawissa Road in Dittmer was destroyed by fire early Saturday morning (July 20), reports Greg Shuster, assistant chief for the Cedar Hill Fire Protection District.

No one was injured, he said.

The fire was suspicious and appeared to be caused by arson, Shuster said.

He said a home on the same property was destroyed by a suspicious fire about a year ago. At that time, someone lived in the home, but no one was home when the fire broke out, Shuster said.

When the barn burned down Saturday, it was mainly empty and no one lived on the property, he said.

Cedar Hill Fire got a call about the barn fire at 3:35 a.m., Shuster said.

He said it took about 15 minutes to get the blaze under control.

The St. Clair and Pacific fire districts also helped with the call, Shuster said.

In addition, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office was called about 3:50 a.m. to help investigate the fire.

Shuster said he also contacted a state arson investigator to help.

As of Tuesday, there were no arrests, Shuster said.
