A 50-year-old Hillsboro man was killed Saturday night (Jan. 30) when his car crashed head-on with a tractor trailer in Lawrence County west of Springfield, Mo.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that Richard Ashley, 50, of Hillsboro, was driving a 2006 Nissan Titan east on Hwy. 96 nine miles northwest of Mount Vernon at 11:20 p.m. when he crossed the center line into the path of a westbound 2014 International truck driven by Hugh Ester, 60, of Coldwater, Miss. The two vehicles collided head-on, the report said.
Ashley was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:50 p.m., the report said.
Ester was not injured in the crash, nor was Krystal Engelbrecht, 33, of Rolla, who was driving a westbound 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee that had minor damage after being hit by debris from the crash.
The Nissan and the tractor-trailer were totaled. All three drivers in involved in the accident were wearing seat belts, the report said.
