A 38-year-old Festus man has been arrested for assault and suspicion of driving drunk following a two-vehicle accident at 9:45 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 3) on Hwy. 61 at northbound I-55 south of Festus, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reports.
The 38-year-old was seriously hurt and two other Festus residents – Robert J. Young, 27, and Logan J. Young, 2 – received minor injuries in the accident, the report said.
Robert Young was driving a 2005 Ford F-350 south on the exit ramp from I-55 to Hwy. 61, and the 38-year-old was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier north on Hwy. 61 approaching the interstate before he ran a red light and his car struck the left side of the pickup, which was turning left onto Hwy. 61, according to the report.
The 38-year-old was taken by helicopter to Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, the report said.
However, the hospital had no information about him on Monday morning (Aug. 5), a hospital spokeswoman said.
Both the Youngs were taken by Joachim-Plattin Ambulance to Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City.
Robert Young was treated and released, a hospital spokesman said.
Logan Young was transferred to St. Louis Children's Hospital, where he was listed in good condtion Monday morning, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Neither the 38-year-old nor Robert Young was wearing a seat belt, but Logan Young was restrained with a safety device, the patrol reported.
